Purpose of the role:
We are looking for a Data Scientist that will help us discover the information hidden in vast amounts of data, and help us make smarter decisions to deliver even better products. Your primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, doing statistical analysis, and building high quality data analytics and prediction systems integrated with our products. BT Consumer provides services to UK based customers including BT Sport, Broadband, TV and Mobile Services. Here in Consumer IT we intend to provide the backbone of quality services that our customers choose us over others and we strive to provide the best services and quality for them.
 
You will be working with the following line of business (LOB): BT Consumer and all of its customer data.
 
In this role you will be performing Data Integrity checks across various systems, developing models to predict failures, engage customers and define/ identify metrics to enhance the quality of services to our customers.
 
Key responsibilities:
  • Analyse data across systems
  • Define key metrics for development of predictive models
  • Report generation for data insight
  • Develop visualizations of the data being analysed
  • Develop models for prediction and insight
 
Qualifications/Skills/Experiences: 
  • Degree in any Engineering or Statistical Analytics areas.
  • At least 3 year(s) of relevant working experience in Data Analytics.
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.
  • Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Python
  • Experience with data visualisation tools, such as Shiny, Kibana, OBIEE.
  • Knowledge in using query languages such as PL/SQL, Hive, Pig, S.
  • Experience with Big Data platforms – Hadoop, Cloudera.
  • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Good scripting and programming skills – Java, Angular JS, Python, R.
  • Experience in Oracle Data Integrator
  • Machine Learning knowledge and experience would be a big advantage
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive to deliver to customer.
  • Intense curiosity and interest in information and data analytics.
  • Great communication skills
  • Applicants must be willing to work in Bangsar South.

About BT Technology, Service & Operation (TSO)

TSO is an internal service unit responsible for the innovation, design, development and delivery of the processes, networks and platforms that run the BT business – The centre in Malaysia undertakes development projects using enterprise information technologies to improve customer service and enable us to invest and grow the business.
 
The TSO team works closely with each of BT’s customer-facing lines of business to create new products and make sure that existing services evolve to meet the needs of their customers. BT is always looking towards the future and team manage most research and development, and are responsible for BT’s worldwide patent portfolio of more than 4,500 patents and applications. BT is continuing its  long history of innovation. In 1926 BT held the world’s first two-way, trans-Atlantic conversation by radio telephone from our wireless station near Rugby. And in 1943, Tommy Flowers, working in the telecommunications division of the General Post Office, developed the world’s first programmable electronic computer, Colossus. In 1968, BT installed the world’s first digital telephone exchange. BT laid the world’s first, purpose-designed optical fibre submarine cable in Loch Fyne, Scotland in 1980.
